Aaron Curry: Doomsday Paintings (Bad Dimension Press)
Doomsday Paintings is an artist’s book by Los Angeles-based artist Aaron Curry, produced in conjunction with his exhibition at The Ranch in Montauk. The book (and exhibition) features a selection of wild day-glo paintings that art historian and comics-expert Dan Nadel calls “terrible in fury but light in spirit,” emitting from a “burbling galactic realm.” Curry’s art churns together art historical touchstones and contemporary lowbrow grit: the spirit of Salvador Dali and Peter Saul collide with Robert Williams, Norm Saunders, and Basil Wolverton. And there’s some outstanding cereal-box collages in there, too.
From an edition of only 200 copies, signed and numbered by the artist. Half this run went directly to The Ranch, so we’re very lucky to have them available here. 10 3/4 x 14 inches.
